A Young India Fellow (2016), Pia earned her Master’s in Liberal Studies (Cum Laude) from Ashoka University, where her thesis was later published as a book. She has been a Charles Wallace India Trust Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and trained in Modern Art at Oxford University. With Afterschool, Pia helps young minds navigate the world of humanities by connecting them with top mentors from global institutions. She believes that the right guidance can transform perspectives, empowering students to explore, discover, and shape their own academic and career paths.
From the disciplined corridors of the army to the analytical rigor of an MBA at IIM Calcutta, enriched by global perspectives from Mannheim Business School, Gurnur’s journey has been anything but conventional. A computer science engineer turned military officer, he has navigated leadership, strategy, and adaptability in high-stakes environments. Yet, amid these diverse experiences, one realization stood out—true growth lies in the freedom to explore, question, and learn beyond textbooks. After transitioning from the army, Gurnur’s MBA journey took him across India and Germany, exposing him to a wide range of disciplines—economics, philosophy, psychology, and political science. This global exposure sparked a thought: Why do so many young minds confine themselves to predefined career paths when the world offers so much more? That question led to the creation of Afterschool—a platform where curiosity meets guidance
